Geography

Padang which is the capital city of the West Sumatra Province and the tourism main gate to the west coast of Sumatra Island, lies at the western part of the extreme centre of Sumatra island or between latitudes 0058’ 44’ south and longitudes 100 21’ 11’ east and occupies an area of ¬+ 434.63 square Km, stretching from the foot of the Bukit Barisan mountain range to Hindia Ocean with 15 small islands in front. As the beach city, it has a high temperature between 28.50 C - 31.50 C at mid day and 240 C - 25.50 C at night. The average annual rainfall is + 306 mm.

Topography of the eastern and southern parts is relatively wavy and sharply-contoured, while the rest of the area is plainer. Some rivers and canals run through in the central part of the town with a hill with an approximate height of 400m overlooking the sea. On the southern part of the hill, you may find several straights, white sandy beaches, and beautiful islands. To the east, Padang borders onto the Solok Regency. We have wildlife preservation in an area at an altitude of 400 to 1300 meters above sea level with breathing taking dramatic scenic beauty making a lasting impression with visitors.
