Languages

The most spoken language in Padang is the Minang language as a local language along with the national Indonesia language. These two languages do not differ significantly, except only for their dialect. A strong proportion of the population speaks English proficiently, especially on encountering foreigners.

Presently, the town is also popular around Indonesia for its delicacy, generically known as ‘Padang food’. This is an ever expanding and ‘bustling’ town and the general make up of the town takes the form of vibrant colored office buildings uniquely roofed in Minangkabau architecture. Although an incredibly busy town it still has the the record for being one of the cleanest and safest towns in Indonesia.
